Every garment follows a structured development path. We review the product direction, develop the pattern, build the first sample, evaluate fit and construction, make approved revisions and prepare the style for PPS and production.

01 REVIEW

Tech Pack & Product Review

We begin by reviewing your tech pack, sketches, reference garment, measurements, fabric direction, trims and intended fit so the development team understands what you are trying to create.

02 DEVELOP

Pattern Development

The garment pattern establishes the shape, proportion, balance, construction and fit foundation used to create the first physical sample.

03 SAMPLE

First Prototype

The first sample is cut and sewn so the garment can be evaluated physically for fit, silhouette, construction, fabric behavior and overall design direction.

04 REFINE

Fit Review & Revisions

Measurements, ease, proportion, balance and construction are reviewed. Approved corrections are transferred back to the pattern and a revised sample is produced when required.

05 APPROVE

PPS & Final Sample Approval

Once development is approved, the style can move toward a pre-production sample using confirmed specifications, materials, trims, branding and construction direction.

06 PREPARE

Grading & Production Preparation

After the approved base size and fit are confirmed, the pattern can be graded into the required size range and prepared for cutting, sewing and bulk manufacturing.

When Does the PPS Come In?

The development sample is used to establish and refine the garment. Once the style is approved and the project is preparing for manufacturing, a pre-production sample (PPS) becomes the production reference for the approved fit, construction, materials, trims and branding direction.

If you proceed with sample/production, there is no sample charge. Sample is handled as PPS. Pattern, screen and applicable setup costs remain separate.

Common Questions About Apparel Sampling

Sampling is where fit, construction, materials and design details are tested before production. These are some of the questions brands most often ask before beginning a sample-development project.

Do I need a tech pack to start a garment sample?

A tech pack is the preferred starting point because it gives our development team measurements, construction information, fabric direction, trims and product specifications. If you do not have one, you can provide sketches, reference images, measurements or an existing garment for review.

Can you make a sample from an existing garment?

An existing garment can be used as a fit, construction or design reference when appropriate. We still review the requested changes, measurements, fabric and intended fit before developing the new garment.

How long does the first sample usually take?

First sample or PPS development typically takes approximately 7–14 days after the project information and required approvals are confirmed. More complex garments, custom materials and specialty processes can require additional time.

What happens if the first sample needs changes?

Fit and construction feedback is reviewed and approved corrections are transferred back to the pattern. Revisions generally take approximately 5–7 days depending on the changes required.

What is the difference between a sample and a PPS?

A development sample is used to establish and refine the garment. A pre-production sample, or PPS, represents the approved style before manufacturing and confirms the production direction for fit, construction, materials, trims and branding.

Can you source fabric and trims for my sample?

Yes. Euphoric Colors can assist with available fabric and trim sourcing based on the product requirements. Specialty fabrics, custom yarns, custom trims and certain finishes may require higher minimum quantities or longer sourcing timelines.

Can my approved sample move directly into production?

Yes. Once the pattern, fit, PPS and production specifications are approved, the project can continue into grading, cutting, sewing, finishing, quality control and bulk manufacturing.

What should I send for the most accurate project review?

Send your tech pack first if one is available. Also include reference images or garments, target quantity, fabric and trim direction, branding requirements and your desired production timeline.
